Unity Developer

Game
Contract
Mid-level
Remote
We are seeking a skilled Unity Developer to create a digital board game platform for Android tablets. The goal is to develop a unified library of digital board games that can be installed on a custom Android device and support LAN-based multiplayer gameplay across multiple tablets.

The platform will feature classic board games, including but not limited to:
• Tic Tac Toe
• Monopoly (or a similar property-trading game)
• UNO (or a similar card game)
• Chess
• Snakes and Ladders
• Checkers
• Dominoes
• Backgammon
• (Additional games may be added in the future)

Each game should offer:
• Smooth UI/UX experience across all included games
• Multiplayer support over LAN (local network, no internet required)
• Single-player mode with AI opponents (where applicable)
• Optimized performance for Android tablets
• Seamless navigation between games within the library

Once the game library is developed, we intend to install it on custom Android hardware, ensuring compatibility with the device’s OS and display settings.

Key Responsibilities:

The selected developer will be responsible for the full-cycle development of the platform, including:

Game Development & Integration:
• Code all board games from scratch in Unity (using C#).
• Implement consistent UI and controls across different games.
• Develop or integrate 2D board game assets and animations.
• Ensure each game adheres to official rules and gameplay mechanics.
• Provide customizable settings (e.g., difficulty level, time limits, number of players).

Multiplayer Functionality:
• Implement LAN-based multiplayer networking so multiple players can connect and play games across tablets without the need for an internet connection.
• Allow seamless game hosting and joining across devices.
• Support multiple simultaneous game sessions within the same network.
• Ensure real-time syncing of game states across all connected devices.

Performance Optimization & Deployment:
• Optimize games to run smoothly on Android tablets with limited hardware resources.
• Ensure battery efficiency and minimal lag.
• Adapt the platform for offline functionality (no reliance on cloud services).
• Test and debug performance issues across different Android devices.

Documentation & Future Expansion:
• Provide comprehensive documentation on code structure, networking, and deployment.
• Offer support for future expansion, including adding new games or updating existing ones.

Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you should have:

Technical Skills:
• Strong proficiency in Unity (C#) game development.
• Experience developing board/card games (preferred).
• Proven experience with LAN-based multiplayer (e.g., Unity Netcode, Mirror, Photon).
• Familiarity with Android development and performance optimization.
• Experience designing AI opponents for turn-based games.
• Ability to create or integrate 2D game assets.
• Knowledge of device-specific deployment on Android.

Soft Skills:
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication.
• Attention to detail in UI/UX design and gameplay mechanics.
• Good documentation practices for code and game logic.

Preferred Skills (Bonus but Not Required):
• Experience in network security for local multiplayer.
• Prior experience working with custom Android hardware.
• Knowledge of custom Android OS modifications.

Compensation & Work Arrangement:
• Payment: Negotiable based on experience (fixed-price or milestone-based).
• Work Location: Fully remote.
• Project Duration: Estimated 2 months with potential for expansion.

How to Apply:

If you are interested in this project, please submit:
1. Your portfolio showcasing past Unity projects (especially board/card games or multiplayer games).
2. A brief proposal explaining how you would approach this project.
3. Your expected rate and availability.
